Gregor Beyer was born in Bad Kreuznach in Rhineland-Palatinate in 1968. He studied at what is now the Eberswalde University for Sustainable Development, specialising in ‘Landscape Use and Nature Conservation’ and ‘Forestry’. With the founding of ‘Forum Natur’, he took over the management of this joint interest group of Brandenburg land use associations from 2015 to 2022.

Beyer has been active in various associations since his studies. Initially as a volunteer, then full-time until early 2010, he was a senior employee at the German Nature and Biodiversity Conservation Union (NABU), most recently as head of the NABU visitor information centre Blumberger Mühle near Angermünde in the UNESCO biosphere reserve Schorfheide-Chorin. For NABU, the active hunter was temporarily responsible for forest and hunting policy as federal press spokesman.

From the end of 2009, he was spokesman for economic policy, airports, water management, nature conservation, forestry and hunting for the liberal parliamentary group in the Brandenburg state parliament. From 2011 until his retirement in 2014, Beyer was also state chairman of the FDP Brandenburg. In addition, he has been Deputy Chairman since 3 March 2012 and Chairman of the Brandenburg State Association of the Schutzgemeinschaft Deutscher Wald (SDW) (German Forest Protection Association) since spring 2015. He is now associated with the SDW as Honorary Chairman.

Since July 2022, Beyer was initially Head of the Office for Agriculture and Environment of the Märkisch-Oderland district administration in Seelow. After his election by the district council, he took over Department IV as an alderman and was also responsible for veterinary services and food monitoring. In this role, he was also a member of the board of trustees of the Märkische Schweiz Nature Park.

In December 2024, Beyer was appointed State Secretary in the Ministry of Agriculture and Food, Environment and Consumer Protection of the State of Brandenburg by Minister President Dietmar Woidke.

He has lived in Eberswalde (Brandenburg) since his studies, occasionally also in Seelow and Potsdam. He is married and has three grown-up children.
